Hook blocks are rigidly connected traveling blocks and a hook. During drilling, the hook block is connected to the swivel and to the elevator during the tripping operation. When the drill string is rotated by the rotor during drilling, the hook block receives the torque from the swivel and securely holds the swivel shtrop in the hook mouth. It holds the swivel string during tripping operations, providing easy manipulation in the process of grabbing and releasing the drill pipe stands.
